Course Description:
It is an indisputable fact that Computers and high-speed communication networks are transforming our world very fast. Even though these technologies have brought us many benefits, they have also raised many social, professional, legal and ethical concerns. Legal issues surrounding Information Technology and its tools have become one of the most discussed areas in law. Computing and Information Technology (IT) graduates are expected to use technical knowledge and their core values on ethical issues and Law to help businesses or organizations to excel; thus promoting the national developmental agenda. In this course, students are introduced to some of today’s most contentious issues in the field and become aware of the arguments surrounding most of the issues, to encourage critical thinking, have a better understanding of the broad legal and ethical framework within which businesses and IT professionals operate. The students will be aware in particular of how IT laws, policies and computer ethics, data protection laws, can affect the discharge of their duties in the world of work. In this course, students will understand and apply the concepts and principles of moral thinking to problems relating to computing and digital technologies, discuss controversial issues related to IT laws, Improve their skills in writing argumentative essays, and in critical thinking, analysis, and presentations.
